I posted a page in the FtM Mentors website to all the transguys, and realized that I’d like to get the word out to everyone invovled in transgender issues. So I am cross-posting it here, in hopes of finding a few of you who want to get involved in helping to reach the world and educate people on the issues that transmen and transwomen face daily.
Plans for 2009
Hello Everyone,
It’s been a good few months watching all of you connect with other transguys. I’ve met some of you through offline emails and IM’s, and look forward to connecting to more of you through this coming year. When I launched this site, I knew there would be others that needed the encouragement and support, just like I did and still do. It’s great to see the camaraderie and friendships that are building here. Men from several different countries are reaching out and supporting other guys all over the world, as well as many of you have found the local support you need.
I will be enhancing the FtM Mentors site over the next few months – hopefully adding some new features such as blogging, video uploads and instant messages. No promises – it all depends on whether I can get the script updated and enhanced without compromising all of the data (your details and profiles). The site is backed up nightly, so even if something does go wrong at any time, it can be restored within a few hours. We’ll all pray this doesn’t happen, though!
During this coming year, I will be working on some new web sites, and am thinking it would be great to have a few of you “web-saavy” guys help me out with them. I will need people with HTML experience, PHP, and for those of you who don’t do either – just having you WRITE (articles, blogs, information, resources) – anything you can do to help would be appreciated. Each of you who help on these sites will get credit on the site for your time and energy involved, and links to your own sites if you have them.
One site I will be launching is We Know the Hate – (www.weknowthehate.org) We Know the Hate will focus on: Education, support and advocacy of transgender rights and issues. There will be a “WALL” which is for TDOR (Transgender Day of Remembrance) with names of all reported hate crimes towards transgender persons over the years. There will be education articles to teach the public about transgender people; who were are, why we are, what being transgender IS and ISN’T, what our issues are and what our rights should be – equal. The GLBT world has taken a step in the right direction with Join the Impact – but from what I see, the GLB forgets to include the T in most instances. I want to make sure that the T is included!
Another site that will be coming is an FtM dating site. There are a few, I know – but I’d like to think that a site DEDICATED to FtM dating can be just as big and full of all the features of standard dating sites can exist. So that’s what I am to do. Ideas are appreciated. What do YOU want to see in a dating site? What DON’T you want to see?
Now – I want to begin working on a site that will support donations for SRS, Therapy, etc. for transmen and transwomen. Sorry guys, can’t all be about us – the transmen. There are transwomen who need support too (which is, of course, why I created MtF Mentors!). I plan on doing the paperwork to be a registered non-profit corporation which will be dedicated to assisting trans individuals with surgery, therapy, and other medical needs, as well as housing, employment, and more. Those of you with any knowledge or experience in running organizations are encouraged to get in contact with me.
